Both Rob Havelock and Lianne Jones love the outdoors and spend a good deal time together walking in the mountains. Rob is Founder of an Eryi (Snowdonia)-based walking and outdoor community dedicated to helping people recovering from addiction and mental health struggles. Lianne is an ultra-marathon participant, running many miles in training, and supports Rob with his Sober Snowdonia initiative. Here, they describe in conversation with Wulf how these activities facilitate their recovery.
How Outside Activities Facilitate Recovery: Rob Havelock & Lianne Jones [2 Films, 6’28”]
When he was on a mountain, all Rob’s senses seemed to be opening up. There was something there that he can’t explain in relation to that spiritual aspect that all people need to find in recovery, in some form or other. Rob got in a spiritual state from being in the mountains. It was like a walking meditation. He started noticing the lichen, plants, geology, and how beautiful the lakes were. It wasn’t about the summit; it was about the journey.
