Rob Havelock and Lianne Jones are a loving couple that I first met in April 2024 when I went for a walk on Moel Eilio with Sober Snowdonia, the Eryi (Snowdonia)-based walking and outdoor community that was founded by Rob and is dedicated to helping people recovering from addiction and mental health struggles. They are both over three years in recovery from an addiction to drugs and alcohol.
I have recently posted on our People page details of Lianne and Rob’s conversation with my colleague Wulf Livingston, who has know the couple since their early days visiting Penrhyn House, the residential part of North Wales Recovery Communities (NWRC). This conversation took place over a year ago and I embarrassingly confess my sins in being slow to editing the relevant film into ten separate videos totalling over 65 minutes. The People page also includes written details of each part of the conversation.
In these films, Rob and Lianne talk about their days being addicted to drugs and alcohol. They then describe their early recovery journeys, which included a relapse and return to Penryhn House, and describe factors that facilitated their ongoing recovery within Penrhyn and NWRC. You will learn how Rob developed a love of the mountains, became a mountain guide, and set up Sober Snowdonia. Lianne describes her love of the outdoors and becoming an ultra-marathon participant. In the film below, they talk about the impact of their outdoors activities on their recovery.
Lianne and Rob are so passionate and enthusiastic about what they do. They are a great example of how one can turn your life around, find new interests, and help others on their recovery journey. They are such a lovely couple, and their Story is very special.
I was not only grateful for going on the Sober Snowdonia walk on Moel Eilio but also for the walk on Anglesey that Rob took my partner Linda and I on last September. [NB. The photograph to the left was taken at the end of our Moel Eilio walk.]
